Patient had a tonsillectomy with also blind biopsies of both sides of base of tongue. Any ever heard of ths procedure ?

I believe there is no other way to describe a "blind biopsy", it is what it says, the surgeon took either a punch or alligators, etc... and grabbed some tissue indirectly or "blindly"; the surgeon should indicate how many biopsies were obtained as you can bill CPT 41105 X the number of biopsies taken; but please note, some carriers only allow this code to be billed a limited number in one surgical setting, you may get a denial for "over-utilization" of the code if you bill it, say, 5 times, you may only get paid for 2 of the 5 biopsies.

Hope this helps.
