Hello

I am a bit confused as to billing the blood glucose lab

82962 seems to be a home test

Our tests are being done at the ER or Same Day Surgery at the hospital and they are using 82962. Would 82947 or 82948 be more appropriate?

Please advise

Thank You
Sara

The description for CPT 82962 states that the device has been FDA-cleared for home use, not necessarily that the test is being performed in the home. A CPT Assistant article from 10/2011 indicates that the devices described by 82962 may be used in the office, outpatient setting, or at home. This article states that 82948 describes blood glucose level is obtained by blood placed on a glucose oxidase strip, with visual comparison against a color chart. CPT 82962 uses a small portable device to test by glucose oxidase, hexokinase, or electrochemical methods and spectrophotometry.
I suggest confirming how the tests are performed to verify your code selection.
