Hi everyone,

I’m trying to better understand real-world blood transfusion billing scenarios across different claim types and would appreciate input from those who work with hospital or facility billing.

Specifically, I’m looking for practical examples of how units are reported when billing for blood transfusions using:

  • HCPCS P-series codes (e.g., blood products)
  • Revenue codes such as 038x (blood components) and 039x (processing/administration)
  • CPT codes like 36430 for transfusion administration
  • ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient transfusion procedures
If anyone can share sample claim scenarios or simplified examples showing how these codes and units appear together, it would be extremely helpful.
