Hi all, I wanted to take a pulse and see what other coders are seeing from their phyisicians when it comes to using BMI codes. My question is, patients who are 18- 20 years of age do you use the appropriate V85.5X(1-4) pediatric code or do you code the BMI for the adult scale V85.0- V85.4? Any response would be greatly helpful. I know the guidelines but want to see how other practices are doing?

Bmi

Per the ICD-9-CM (Professional Edition) in the note section of V85.5 it states that BMI pediatric codes are for use for persons age 2-20 years old. As well as for the V85 note: BMI adult codes are use for persons over 20 years old.
