Can anyone give me a good, clear way to know whether a bone biopsy should be considered superficial or deep? I have read the CPT description, but it does not help me to decide whether a biopsy of metatarsal or cuboid bone would be deep or superficial.

Thanks in advance for any help. :-)

Superficial bone can be palpated and doesn't usually need imaging guidance

Deep bone cannot be palpated and typically need imaging guidance.

The foot bones would be superficial.
