Recently one of our pathologist ask me to provide a CPT code for a cytospin for a bone marrow specimen. The pathologist informed me that a cytospin used in cytology (88108) was not the same as one done for a bone marrow specimen.
A portion of the pathologist's microscopic for the bone marrow is:
Materials examines include a peripheral blood smear (Wright-Giemsa stain), cytospin smears and touch prep (Wright-Giemsa and iron) etc.

Any suggestion on the CPT for a cytospin for BM.

Thanks.

Yes I agree with mannlx; 85097 seems the right one. It s the term that is confusing her. What was request for study? I think it would have been easier with the request Cytospin Smear for interpretation, Bone marrow.
