Is CPT code 64615 (chemodenervation of muscles innervated by facial, trigeminal, cervical spinal and accessory nerves..) required to be perfpormed by a physician? OR can it be performed by an RN?

I have never heard of this being performed by a RN, and due to the risk involved with this type of procedure, I sincerely doubt that it would be within the RN scope of practice. But to know for sure you would need to contact your state's board of nursing to find out since they would be the agency that would make this determination. I'd also recommend checking with your practice's liability insurance carrier to find out if this would be allowed under their coverage.

We have only physician and Nurse Practitioners/Physicians Assistants who perform Botox injections in our practice. I do not think a nurse would ever qualify for this treatment.
