So the new codes are confusing me a bitl


Needle localization excision biopsy
US gruided placement of needle localizer

Can I bill 19281 and 19281
Under direct Ultrasound guidance a J wire wasintroduced and placed just deep to the previously placed biopsy clip and the associated density. The proceeded uneventfully. Patient was taken the operating room. Breast was prepped again. Incision was brought down through subcut fat a distance of roughly 55mm. Broad dissection to either side of the needle localizer was then performed as well as dissection deep to the needle localizer. The specimen was removed...................

for the needle localization using ultrasound the code is 19285. Each code contains the imaging method. The 19281 would be incorrect since the imaging used was not mammographic guidance. The removal of the specimine is not included in the 19285. look at CPT 19101 for the biopsy portion. also check you NCCI edits.
