bunion and exostosis removal

Hello All,

If doctor performs a bunionectomy (Rt hallux) removes bunion from the head of metatarsal and also removes an exostosis from the base of the proximal phalanx is this considered inclusive? though procedures are on different toe bones (metatarsal and proximal phalanx).

The exostosis would be included in this situation

In performing the bunion procedure, no matter what code is selected, cleaning up the surgical area where the bones meet is going to be included. The physicians often have to clean up bone spurs and so forth for the procedure.

If it's performed in a separate area, that is a different story.

thank you so much orthocoderpgu for your answer. I was a bit confused since two different bones (metatarsal and proximal phalanx base) were mentioned but documentation did not indicate either that a separate incision was made and the work was on the same toe.
