I have a provider that just did a c-section on a patient with a BMI of 56 and is wanting to add a modifier to the claim due to the delivery being difficult due to her BMI. Would a 22 modifier be appropriate here?

Thanks!

Full disclosure that I am an apprentice coder. But I would say yes, if the provider documents appropriately, it would be supported in this case. Morbid obesity can support the use of modifier 22 as long as the provider documents the additional work and the reason for it
