Hey Coders, Auditors, and all HIM professionals;
I've been receiving receiving claims that are consisting of Negative screenings for "Alcoholic and other substance abuse". These claims are when our patients are seeing a Behavior Specialist Provider whose an ARNP with a counseling credential. The documentation with-in the claim is consisting of 10 questions relating to screening for Alcoholic and Substance abuse using AUDIT, and DAST instruments with the Patients responses. Based off these responses to the questions provider documents her assessments and often its stating things like "no intervention is needed". Can these be reimbursable with Codes like 99401-Preventive Medicine counselling? The challenge can these screenings be reimbursed for the use of the providers time?
