Good evening,

A patient is new to Medicare but is an established patient at our doctor's office. She was just seen for her Welcome to Medicare visit where the doctor also performed a cervical pap smear. My question is: can I code a pap smear along with this visit? If so, how would I go about doing that? Are there particular CPT/ICD-9 codes I should use in this case and/or any modifiers?

Thank you so much for you assistance!
Noelle

Yes, you can bill for a welcome to Medicare G0402 and a pap on the same day G0101 and Q0091.This is actually the only occassion when they will pay for both. (During a Medicare physical)

Thank you for your reply! And if it is the first year of exams (the G0438) code, is it correct that you can bill for a pap if they have not had one in two years?
