Good afternoon,

We have a patient who had shingles of the forehead and around the eye. Can I code both 053.29 and 053.9 for this patient? Or would you have to choose one over the other?

Thank you!
Noelle

Shingles around the eye is not the same as 053.29. Just use the 053.9 if the only thing documented is shingles around the eye and forehead. It sound like the provider is simply giving the location of the rash not that there are any ophthalmic complications.

Thank you both so much! I truly appreciate your assistance and for clarification regarding that question!
