I was just wondering if anyone knew if coding in Canada was the same or similar to that in the United States?

Every country in the world uses ICD-10, with the exception of the US, who will begin using it in October, 2013. However, other countries only use ICD for diagnosis coding, not procedures. Each country does have their own "modification" which meets their needs as well as the World Health Organization. The US is the only country to do procedural coding, thus CMS is responsible for creating and maintaining PCS (procedures).

Hope this helps!

If I can finese this answer a little, all other countries do use ICD-10, the US will be using ICD-10 CM which is a very different code set with different rules. ICD-10 is used primarily for death certificates to capture mortality and morbidity information.
