My provider did a consult for chest tube management. I cannot find a diagnosis code, can someone point me in the right direction?

"Chest tube management" is not a diagnosis. Why was the chest tube placed? Was there a pulmonary condition? You may have to query the provider. The tube management was part of the clinical plan, not the patient's condition, which is what you want to report.

Hi Pam, thanks for your post. The notes say:
a 80 year old female status post emergent chest tube placement in the ED for pneumothorax and pleural effusion. Her chest tube fell out in the ICU during a dressing change: it did not fall out completely. However, patient did have air sucking into the chest and the chest tube was replaced back into the chest wall. A stat chest x-ray was ordered by the primary team, which showed the ___ cavity. A pressure dressing had been placed over the chest tube to secure it and the primary team consulted us for chest tube management.
Reason for consult: chest tube management
So Pam your saying I need to code the pneumothorax and pleural effusion?
