Hello,

pt admitted to hospital for cardiac arrest, doc who bills as professional seen pt. I billed cardiac arrest for initial encounter. Doctor see's pt next day and note still indicates cardiac arrest. Do I continue to bill this each day it is listed even though pt only went into arrest on day of admission? I'm thinking no and it would be a history of code after initial episode but would like clarification.

Thank you.

Hi,

As long as the patient receives treatment, you can code cardiac arrest. As per ICD-9CM, completly resolved disease condition and no treatment to that particular site means, then only we will take history codes.

Cardiac arrest is acute condition and next day itself the doctor see's the patient, then how we will take history code?

I suggest you can take cardiac arrest code as long as patient receives the treatment.

Regards,
Dhanesh M
