I am billing for care plan oversight services. The initial code that was billed was g0182 which i know is wrong because the patient has to have been seen in the last 6 months so i re-billed it using g0180 and got paid for it. The issue i'm having is for the second care plan am i using g0179- physician re-certification or g0181-physician supervision of a patient receiving medicare covered services? Any advice would be helpful.

The initial plan of care would be G0180 and then any re-certification would be G0179. However, you must follow the rules. In order to bill the G0180 the physcian must see the patient 90 days prior or 30 days after the start of the plan of care for the diagnosis Home Health is providing. Also, the physcian must see the patient at least once every 6 months. October Coding Edge had an article about this.
