Can someone tell me if you can charge for a cast change if the m.d. is out of the office and a patient comes in and the nurse changes the cast and patient is not seen by m.d. The physician requested that patient come into the office the week prior to the cast change visit and the md was on vacation and not available for call.

The nurse certainly can apply the cast and bill for it as long as he/she has a supervising provider. If there is no MD in the office, he/she cannot bill w/o direct supervision
