New to Ortho and our physician is asking to have the Q codes as well as the A codes built in our system for the casting supplies. He has indicated we can bill for both, but looking at the codes they look like the same. Seems inappropriate to me to bill both. What is the difference between these codes?
Example: Q4009 Cast supplies, short arm cast, adult, plaster and A4580 Cast Supplies(e.g. Plaster.)

Thanks all!

Use of codes (Q or A) will depend on the insurance you are billing. Check payer policies. We bill the Q codes to medicare and most commercial payers while we bill the A codes to regular Medicaid.
