There is a provider asking about the "CAT - COPD assessment" and how to bill. Has anyone billed this and what code can be used? I don't know if CPT 96160 is appropriate. If you have billed this, and have a source, would you share? Thanks!

I have never seen the tool until I looked it up just now. However, it would probably be 96160. Is it being administered in office or is the patient doing it at home and bringing in? It may just be part of the E/M.
There are a couple CPT Asst. references to it, so I would check there if you have access to CPT Assistant.
Then, you would have to figure out if the health plan it is being billed to even covers the CPT, and for which "standardized instruments". I am betting it would not be covered for this tool.
If you look at the CMS fee schedule the payment is very low. I looked up MAC locality 0610299 REST OF ILLINOIS for this snip:

I have only seen 96160 used for: Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC-17)• Pediatric Symptom Checklist (PSC-35)• Pediatric Symptom Checklist for Youth (Y-PSC)• Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9)• Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) Modified for Adolescents (PHQ-A [depression screen])• Car, Relax, Alone, Forget, Family, and Trouble Checklist (CRAFFT)• Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-A [anxiety, eating problems, mood problems and substance use])• Rapid Assessment for Adolescent Preventive Services (RAAPS). In most cases, only for children.
