The doctor puts a standing order for periodic cath changes. The patient comes in and the nurse does the cath change. Can we bill the procedure or should we be billing a nurse visit only. The doctor may or may not be in the office suite. Thanks.

I would just bill the service performed. To bill a nurses visit the Doc has to be present and readly available (per medicare), or a supervising doctor of the same specialty. They must also review and sign off on the visit. Hope this helps.

If you bill the procedure, even the doctor must be present as you use his NPI number as the rendering/supervising provider.
