Hello, I am just starting my CIC course through the AAPC. When I'm looking on Indeed I have notice there are not a lot of certifications for CIC, but there is a lot for the CCS. Are the CIC and CCS comparable but just done through different companies? Im wondering if a job posting which requires a CCS would accept a CIC certifications. Please advise.
 
A few years ago I also wanted to get into hospital coding, and was informed that the hospitals around me (NJ) prefer AHIMAs CCS over AAPCs CIC. I was considering CIC or COC. I think like Lynne said, its more in depth, and I think it covers more than just inpatient. Also heard its a very hard exam to pass. I know you said you are starting your course, so your invested already into this credential, and it might help you get your foot in the door. I spoke to someone at a meeting who said the hospital she worked for gave her a certain amount of time to obtain her CCS cert after hiring her. Good luck!
