My doc did an exploratory lap and placed 2 central lines (1 in the r femoral and 1 in the r subclavian). What modifiers do I use on the 2 central lines?
I coded 49000
36556-51
36556-59
Insurance co is denying the one with the 51.
TIA--
Denise

HI Denise,

I am not sure that I would use a modifier for these lines. I would make my units 2 when posting. The lines have no global, so I don't think you need any modifiers. I hope this helps? Thanks.

Hi Denise,

I know in Florida Medicare does not like the 51 modifier on CPT code 36556. I would have coded 49000, 36556, and 36556-59. For commerical insurance I would have billed it the way you did.
