Wiki Charging Infusions with Chemo

Hopefully I articulate this correctly.... we are having trouble determining the correct way to bill for infusions running the same time as chemo. For example, a patient is receiving Cisplatin and Etoposide and during the course of their visit they also receive a Mag/K+ bag. Times might help: Mag/K+ run from at 1140-1540. Cisplatin runs from 1200-1236 and Etoposide runs from 1245-1445. The question is whether you bill for the hour of Mg/K that runs after the chemo is finshed, if you can bill for all four hours, or if it is billed just as a 96368? Thanks for your help. We have been getting conflicting answers to this and wanted to get the feedback from coders doing this everyday.

Mag/K+ 1140-1540 4 hours 96368 (I was told by our consultants when we've had this type of scenario granted not 4 hours long but that it doesn't matter how long it runs afterward since it is a continuous infusion-- it still ran concurrently with the chemo and that is one charge). It would be different if it was started before or after the chemo then you can charge as sequential.
