Need help coding the premeds for chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting. What code do I use for the premeds that are ordered prophylatically? They are not experiencing any vomiting or nausea when they arrive for their treatment, but the doctor orders the premeds prophylatically. Please advise since we cant get a straight answer from anyone.

chemo premeds follow up

We bill WPS medicare and most commerical insurance the V58.11/V58.12, that covers the reason why we need to pre-med without incorrectly coding the claims.

Pre meds such as Magnesium, Mannitol and Potassium to Cisplatin is billed w/ the V58.11 or V58.12 depending on what you're premedicating to what type of drug. Usually the prophylactic drugs is given to prevent the N&V during the chemo.
