Wiki Chemotherapy home infusion pumps

I am hoping someone can help me. We recently started renting pumps from a company for our 5 FU home infusions. The patient comes into the office and we hook up the 5 FU and send the patient home (we bill "incident to). They then come back in 48 hours later and we disconnect the pump. We have our own in house Pharmacy and supply the chemo drug for the pump. Can we be bill the pumps thru DME?

If I recall correctly, no. You would bill the administration charge (96416) but the rental company will collect information from your office and bill for the pump.

It's my understanding that if you want to charge for the pump itself, you need to own the pump and be set up as a DME provider with Medicare. Or so the practice I used to work for was told when they wanted to purchase a bunch of pumps for those 5FU infusions instead of using a DME rental company.
