Hi all-
My doc did a limited chest wall resection and reconstruction using a small piece of PTFE. The diagnosis is an upper lobe cavitary lesion and in order to get to it he had to resect ribs 5 and 6. I used 19271 even though there was no tumor involvement in the chest. I can't find another code anywhere for this. Any suggestions? (My doc hates unlisted codes and the patient has Medicare). Thanks!

Michelle-I looked at that code as well. The only reason I didn't use it is because of the crosscodes. The patient has a cavitary lesion and a lobectomy was done. I suppose it's of 6 of one half a dozen of another at this point...;) Neither code is exactly correct for what was done, but I think the 19271 describes what he did better. I guess I'll send it in with the op notes and see what happens. Thanks for getting back to me!
