Good Morning,
For Medicare patients I know you have to use G0289 for chondroplasty when done with another arthroscopic knee procedure, but what about if the other procedure is an open procedure? Do you use the G code or 29877?
Dr did:
1.) RT knee arthroscopy w/ patellar chondroplasty. 29877 or G0289
2.) Open prepatellar mass excision. 27340

Thanks,
Daisy

You would use 29877. The G0289 is used as an additional code with the knee arthroscopy. So if you had chrondromalacia in the lateral compartment and in the medial compartment you would use 29877 & G0289.

In your case 29877 and 27340 would work.
