Hello,

Are we able to use the G89. icd10 even if they are not related to psychological factor?

Under G89. it states:

Code also related psychological factors associated with pain (F45.42)

It does not state the option " if applicable or if known."

Thanks,

Hi Jessica49,

ICD-10 Chapter Specific Guidelines with Coding Examples, page 517, states:

Code F45.42, Pain disorders with related psychological factors, should be
used with a code from category G89, Pain, not elsewhere classified, if there is
documentation of a psychological component for a patient with acute or
chronic pain.

See Section I.C.6. Pain

As long as "chronic pain" diagnosis is supported by documentation, you should assign G89.xx even when psychological component is not documented.
