Hi,

Can anyone please help me with finding an ICD 9 code for chronic wound of lower extremity? MD does not state that it is an open wound, nor does he states if it is a chronic ulcer. Patient has not recent history of trauma to site.

Since I do coding for a wound care center, I encounter this problem occasionally. The only suggestion that I have is to query the physician. If the physician debrided it or cultured it, in my opinion, that suggests an open wound.
