Can anyone help me?

If a person went to the ER and had xray done and they showed a clavicle fracture and they put her in a sling and had her fu with us (Orthopedics) we examined her and we kept her in the sling with no weight bearing.

I did not code a fracture care therefore there is no global period. Since we did not do anything just left her in the sling.

Do I have to code a fracture care for this or can we code a straight E/M code.

I was told that we can code either way, I just want a clarification on this. Is either way okay?

Thank you,

Linda

Your provider can choose to bill fracture care or office visits. And yes, fracture care has a 90 day global. So you can only bill out x-rays and cast replacements. The office visits are bundled. If I were to choose, I would choose office visits for this one reason: patients think of fracture care as "doing nothing". So they see the bill and freak out. So from a PR standpoint, I would vote for office visits but out clinic does bill out a ton of fracture care.
