We are trying to bill paper charts under a locum provider that did not have access to the EMR. Can I as the coder electronically close that visit? Or do we need a provider to do this? This is my first time billing out a locum and I don't want to do anything wrong.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Can't you scan the paper documents into the patient's EMR and file them/notate them accordingly? You would still have all the docmentation for billing that is needed in the patient's EMR.

The paper charts are scanned in. Our EMR just won't release the electronic claims until someone closes them electronically. I just don't want to do anything illegal/unethical. Thanks!
