I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to find out if a request for an expansion of the CMS specialty codes has been made?
In CMS Claims Processing Manual, Ch 26, updated Apr 2011 - there is information on how to request an expansion, but says that it should be done by a physician specialty association. Currently sleep medicine is not a recognized specialty code by CMS and I'd like to find out if there are any sleep specialty associations that are in the process of requesting an expansion. I have several physicians who are interested in writing to CMS regarding this, but I have no clue where to start with this?
Anyone have any advice/suggestions/experience with this?
