I have been asked to find CMS regulation regarding addendum to medical records in PCP office. Can anyone help me locate a 30 day rule? I have looked everywhere and cannot seem to locate any definitive ruling. Thanks in advance
My understanding is once the claim is submitted the medical record cannot be amended. I don't believe there is a specified timeframe for completion of medical records other than must be done within a reasonable amount of time. Many interpret that as no more than a few days. When I had to research this before some payers have stated 30 days in their policies but that actually seems excessive. I can barely remember what I did yesterday so I don't see how the record can be accurate if going back 30 days.
