Hi,

My denial defender on a bill I'm trying to submit is telling me that 46716 - (Repair of low imperforate anus; with transposition of anoperineal or anovestibular fistula) is a female-only code. I can't find anything in the description of this code that designates it as female-only. Is anovestibular fistula a female-only problem?

The surgeon performed a posterior saggital anorectoplasty for low imperforate anus with perineal fistula. He wants to bill CPT 46716. Is there a better code for this male patient?

Thank you!

Found this http://http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2788475/

"This condition is described in both sexes and has been considered congenital by various authors and has been called as ‘double termination of the alimentary canal’, ‘perineal canal’, and ‘H’ or ‘N’ type fistula."

I've coded this dx for men in the past.

Interesting, thank you! I wonder why my denial defender thinks it is a female-only code.
