I am working in a gastroenterology office, and they are having problems billing for 91111 (eso. capsule) is that the correct code? They have stopped receiving payment since 2012 and just wonder if that code changed and no one caught it. Please HELP.

Make sure when you use 91111 find out if your Dr. is doing esophagus capsule endoscopy only. Normally gastro doctors does not order the esophagus only test. We also use 91110 and we have no problem getting them paid. The difference is that 91110 is esophagus through ileum, while 91111 is esophagus only.

91110 (Gastrointestinal tract imaging, intraluminal [for example., capsule endoscopy], esophagus through ileum, with physician interpretation and report), if your physician used the capsule study to image the intraluminal esophagus through the ileum

91111 (Gastrointestinal tract imaging, intraluminal[e.g., capsule endoscopy], esophagus with physician interpretation and report), if your gastroenterologist carried out imaging or study of the esophagus only, with interpretation and report
