Wiki Coding A Mole (Pre-Path/Derm) Correctly

I've seen this subject debated before on this forum, but I wanted to specify my situation:

A patient comes to a Medical clinic to f/u on her chronic conditions.

The DR finds a mole on the exam on the patients chest and writes up a referral to dermatology.

This hasn't been sent to path, and the patient hasn't even been to dermatology yet.

Considering the DR took the time to address it and write a referral, I'd like to code it.

Do I code a benign skin neoplasm? Or is 709.8 more appropriate?

Any input will help, thanks!
