In the office visit setting, is is appropriate to code 577.0 Acute pancreatitis? Specifically, patient was diagnosed at the hospital with acute pancreatitis three weeks ago (not by our physicians). Now she has some postprandial symptoms and transaminases are elevated and physician is ordering MRCP. Is this still considered acute pancreatitis? I am unclear because I was told some time ago that acute pancreatitis in the office visit setting is rarely an appropriate code, that this would just be V12.79 Personal history of other specified digestive system diseases because we didn't diagnosis the original acute phase and it hasn't yet been diagnosed as "chronic".
