Hi, I am in desperate need of information on coding BH. Could someone please help!! In coding in the ED setting, Behavioral Health, would it be better to use the 97 guidelines, or the 95 guidelines?Thank you!

How is the encounter documented? What exactly DOES your provider do? If he does only a psych exam and little else, 97 might be better. If he does a complete exam, 95 would be better.

In my experience with BH, the practices I have audited have had better results for ED settings using 97, but every practice is different.
