HI! Looking at the AAPCs coding books for 2014, and I was wondering if my CPT2013 book is good to use for 2014 or does the 2013 edition going to be outdated and everyone is switching to the CPT2014 the first of January? I am a student and trying to get this all straight so if needed, I can have time to save up the money for the 2014 books. I know the big switch over for the ICD 10 is in October 2014, but do I need to get the ICD9 2014 till then? Long story short, when do the ICD9 2013 and the CPT2013 books expire? Thanks everyone!!!

ICD-9 diagnosis codes are not being updated for 2014 they have not been updated since Oct 1 2011, so if you have a 2012 ICD-9 book that is still the current code set for the diagnosis. The ICD-9 vol 3 inpatient procedure codes is being updated for 2014 with 4 new codes. I do not know about CPT for 2014 yet but I assume it will be updated as well.
