I have been in the medical field for almost 20 years. I currently have my RN license but am looking to find a job that allows me to act as a single mom and work Mon-Fri hours. I would like to get my coding certification but do not feel that I need to take college courses to do so. Has anyone taken the training online or have any recommendations for me? I would like to get started ASAP. Thank you so much!

I did my study through Allied Medical School, all online I finished in about 2 years only because I am a school teacher and looking to get out after 10 years of it :( I could have been done sooner , it was easy to follow and you can do it on your own time. Since you are already an RN you may just need to talk to them about courses and credits that may transfer over. I hope this helps :) Good Luck

I took the course by mail and did fine. Was able to work on it at my own speed. I think you will do fine since you have been an RN for 20 years.

Hi,

I would recommend that you first decide which organization you want to get your coding certification from, the AAPC or AHIMA. Once you decide that you can look into intensive prep courses to prepare you for the exam so you know what to expect. Since you are already a nurse, you certainly have an advantage. I would also recommend practice exams as well. Hope this helps.

I did mine via an online course, Allied Business Schools, I had just had a baby and could not afford to stop working to go to school full time. I did it at my own pace and I have been coding ever since. Best decision I ever made. They prepared me for the exam and passed it on the first attempt. Getting ready to take a second certification now.
