Hello,
Is anyone else having issues with the new PASRR rules and coding depression? Since the descriptor for F32.9 reads major depressive disorder that is a flag on their end. All we are getting is "depression" from the provider, or they have recently been writing "mild depression" thinking that we could use F32.8, but that would still be coded as F32.9 unless they wanted to change it to "unhappiness." Curious what everyone else is doing? Thank you!

?

I am not familiar with the PASRR new rules but in our facility our code for depression is F32.9 because of the inclusion term Depression NOS
there's no other code for depression, only F32.9 unless documented with specific type, duration, features, etc...
when the provider documents depression then the only thing we do is look for the code of Depression NOS, we can't just assume and code for a different term for the patient case, unless specified F32.9 is the only code that we could get.

mild depression code is F32.0
Unhappiness- R45.2
