Hello. This may be a silly question. What is the difference between inpatient/outpatient coding and primary care office visit coding?

Basically who are you coding for. The inpatient coder is coding for the facility reimbursement for patients in the inpatient setting, the codes are submitted on a UB04 claim, the outpatient coder is coding for the facility for patients in the outpatient departments and the codes are submitted on a UB04. The physician coder is coding for the physician reimbursement and it does not matter where the patient is, that will simply chang the place of service on the claim, the codes are submitted on a CMS 1500.
I hope this helps!
