We have some patients that would like to have their labs drawn in our office first thing in the morning, then come back to our office after they get off of work for their doctor appointment. I have a few questions when the scenario is as follows: In the case that the patient's doctor (we have 3 on staff) is not in office when the pt comes in for lab, but another of our docs is on site.
1) Should this be considered 2 seperate encounters with the lab billed under the doc on site and the OV billed under the physician seeing the patient?
2) If the 2 trips to our office can be considered as one encounter, can I bill the labs and the E/M codes under the physician who saw the patient for the OV? Any help is greatly appreciated!
