I have an orthopedic dr. that is using a CPT 99455 and on his charge sheet the abbreviation MMI is right beside it. I know what the MMI stands for but I have never used that CPT before. I have read about it in the CPT book, but still need a little help.

We use that code for workers' comp; final scheduled loss of use.

So it is used just for loss of use or just the final workman's comp. for release to go back to work.

The comp patients can be released to go back to work at any E/M visit. We use the 99455 for a scheduled loss of use only which includes any percentage of disability (per our state's Work Comp Board Medical Guidelines) the patient may have from the work-related injury.
