Question on coding hierarchy for IM/SubQ injections: A clip from my manager's email to my department.


"Everyone should be aware that the coding hierarchy does not apply to intramuscular injections. This is the second denial I have seen this week because of inappropriate coding related to this.

In the example below, hydration would be initial since the second injection is intramuscular. Same thing with chemo. If you have a chemo intramuscular injection, hierarchy concept should not be applied."


Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
