My doctor came to me wanting to bill for his time that he spends going over home exercises with patients. Is code 97110 the appropriate code? What did he need to dictate for this / what are the requirements he must meet ? Thank you !

97110 is for a therapeutic procedure (or treatment). If the provider is providing a quick demonstration then this would not be appropriate. IF the provider is doing this as a part of an office visit, it may be appropriate to document this in the form of time spent counseling/teaching the patient.

Thank you for the reply ! Our doctor is MD instead of a PT but was a PT prior to med school just didn't get a license in NC. He does spend on average 15-20 minutes with the patients going over exercises. Does it matter if he is a MD and not a PT? Does the code get paid the same?

Hope to hear a response - really appreciate your help !
