The provider I work for was covering for another practice over a weekend. Same specialty, completely different practices. Different NPI/TIN. If the patient has been in the hospital for a day or so, being followed by the other group, now it is the weekend and the provider I work for sees the patient. Do I code as an initial visit since it is the first time he is seeing the patient, or as a subsequent visit since the patient has been in for a few days.
Thanks in advance

We should code as a subsequent visit unless if the Provider has been informed to consult the patient. If your Provider is performing a consultation for a specficic reason requested by the other group, then you should code this visit as an initial Visit. Hope this helps!
