I am curious to know how many of you will code " early MDS (Myelodysplastic Syndrome)?"

I would code only if you have a pathology report that doesn't indicate any other kind of neoplasm. According to the Coding Clinic, Effective 10/1/06, 238.7 is used to identify myelodysplastic syndrome, which is now classified as neoplastic. If you don't have a pathology report at all, I would not assign any neoplasm code. So if "early" means a guess...then, no, I wouldn't code it as such.
