Wiki Coding - possibly swallowed watch battery

I am needing a code for a 2 year old that has possibly swallowed a watch battery? Mother is not sure if she actually swallowed one or not. A x-ray and KUB have been ordered. The KUB is not covered with possibly swallowed battery. Anyone have a clue what code could be used for the tests to be covered?

Is there confirmation that that child actually swallowed the battery? The x-rays show anything? What about the ultrasound?

From just your description, I wouldn't code anything but signs and symptoms. If there are none, then I would code the V71.89 and send in the office notes. I don't think you should even code the E codes because from what I am reading, there is no confermation that the child actually did anything. Your provider seems to be running test to see if the child did swallow.

So, I would ask, do you have confirmation of the swallowed battery?
